Launching the CIOB Apprenticeship Programme

CIOB

When the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) introduced Apprenticeship qualifications to their education offering, we were brought in to create the launch materials and help structure their apprenticeship qualification workflow. We created a comprehensive digital, PDF-based application support library that streamlined the entire process.

Challenges with the legacy Evaluation Processes

Existing apprenticeship evaluation and examination processes can be outdated and cumbersome. Applicants had to navigate a manual, paper-based system that involved emailing assessment forms, printing them out, signing them by hand, and then scanning and storing them on email. This inefficient method was time-consuming, prone to errors, and did not allow applicants the flexibility to work on their applications section-by-section. They couldn’t easily save drafts, refine their answers, or fully check the forms before submission, leading to a disjointed experience. We wanted to transform this.

A digital workflow

We envisioned a smoother, more user-friendly assessment process that leveraged digital documents. After initial research and analysis, we decided to develop a dynamic PDF template structure, customised specifically for CIOB apprentices. This new system not only allows apprentices to be continually assessed throughout their journey but also simplifies the recording and evaluation of their Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs), all the way through to the crucial End-Point Assessment (EPA).

Results

The introduction of this new digital-based form system had a transformative impact on the CIOB apprenticeship assessment process. By replacing the old paper-based method with an interactive, user-friendly digital solution, we significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of the qualification process.

  • Enhanced User Experience: Apprentices now enjoy a smoother, more intuitive process that allows them to focus on the content of their application rather than the logistics of submitting it.
  • Streamlined Evaluation: With all data centralised and accessible, CIOB evaluators can review applications more efficiently, ensuring a faster turnaround time for assessments and final grading.
  • Sustainability: Moving to a digital document system not only enhanced operational efficiency but also aligned with sustainable practices by reducing paper usage.
  • Launch materials: Our work also included programme brochures, video, social media assets and instructional materials

Demographik have been our go-to-agency for a number of years. They have an uncanny ability to consistently produce imaginative solutions no matter the communications challenge. Their work has produced inspiring and compelling design, set the tone for our brand online, and ultimately increased our engagement with a 40% uplift in the duration of online users. In the time we have worked together they have displayed equal flare and thought in the production of video and printed content. What I really appreciate is their infectious dedication and an unerring ability to meet our deadlines. They are consistently great. And that is not easy.
